Description

Oxidized polypropylene is a modified form of polypropylene, a common synthetic polymer, that has undergone controlled oxidation to enhance its properties for various applications, including skincare and cosmetics. This process introduces oxygen-containing functional groups onto the polymer chain, altering its chemical and physical characteristics.

In skincare formulations, oxidized polypropylene serves as a versatile ingredient with multiple benefits. It functions as an effective film-former, creating a protective barrier on the skin's surface that helps lock in moisture and shield against environmental stressors. This barrier property also contributes to its use as a water-resistant agent in sunscreens and long-wearing makeup products.

The oxidation process imparts increased polarity to the polymer, improving its compatibility with other cosmetic ingredients and enhancing its ability to disperse pigments uniformly in color cosmetics.
