OURICURY WAX
Description
Ouricury wax, derived from the leaves of the Ouricury palm (Syagrus coronata) native to northeastern Brazil, is a versatile and valuable ingredient in skincare formulations. This natural wax offers a unique combination of properties that make it particularly useful in cosmetic and personal care products. Ouricury wax is composed primarily of esters, fatty acids, and hydrocarbons, giving it a melting point of around 80-84C.
In skincare applications, Ouricury wax functions as an excellent emollient and thickening agent. It helps to stabilize emulsions, improve product texture, and enhance the skin feel of various formulations. The wax forms a protective barrier on the skin, reducing transepidermal water loss and promoting hydration. Its film-forming properties make it valuable in lip care products and stick formulations.
Ouricury wax is compatible with a wide range of cosmetic ingredients and can be used in both oil-based and water-in-oil emulsions. It is particularly effective in sunscreen formulations, where it can help improve water resistance and enhance SPF performance. The wax is also appreciated for its ability to provide a smooth, non-greasy finish to products, making it ideal for use in lotions, creams, and balms.
