OLIBANUM
Description
Olibanum, also known as frankincense, is a resin derived from Boswellia trees native to regions of Africa and the Arabian peninsula. This ancient ingredient has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and religious ceremonies, and has recently gained attention in modern skincare formulations.
The primary active compounds in olibanum are boswellic acids, which possess potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. These characteristics make olibanum particularly beneficial for addressing various skin concerns, including reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. Additionally, olibanum demonstrates antimicrobial activity, potentially aiding in the management of acne-prone skin.
Olibanum's ability to promote cellular turnover and enhance skin elasticity contributes to a more youthful complexion. It also helps to soothe irritated skin and balance sebum production, making it suitable for multiple skin types. When incorporated into skincare products, olibanum can improve skin texture, boost hydration, and provide a protective barrier against environmental stressors.
Formulators often utilize olibanum in serums, moisturizers, and facial oils due to its compatibility with various cosmetic bases and its pleasant, earthy aroma.
