OLEYL EPOXYPROPYLDIMONIUM CHLORIDE
Description
Oleyl Epoxypropyldimonium Chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound widely used in haircare formulations. This cationic surfactant serves as an effective conditioning agent, particularly in rinse-off products such as shampoos and conditioners. Its molecular structure consists of a long-chain fatty acid (oleic acid) combined with an epoxy group and a quaternary ammonium moiety.
The ingredient's primary function is to impart softness, smoothness, and manageability to hair strands. It forms a thin, protective film on the hair surface, reducing friction between fibers and enhancing detangling properties. Oleyl Epoxypropyldimonium Chloride also helps to neutralize static electricity, minimizing flyaways and frizz.
In formulations, it is typically used at concentrations between 0.5% to 5%, depending on the product type and desired conditioning effect. Its compatibility with anionic surfactants makes it suitable for inclusion in shampoo formulations, where it can provide mild conditioning benefits without compromising cleansing efficacy. The ingredient is generally well-tolerated and can be used in products designed for various hair types, including color-treated and chemically-processed hair.
