Description

OLETH-82 is a synthetic ethoxylated fatty alcohol derived from oleyl alcohol. It functions primarily as an emulsifier and surfactant in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This non-ionic ingredient helps to stabilize oil-in-water emulsions, allowing for the smooth blending of oil-based and water-based components in various products.

With its high ethoxylation level (82 ethylene oxide units), OLETH-82 exhibits excellent solubilizing properties, making it particularly useful in cleansing formulations and as a co-emulsifier in creams and lotions. It aids in reducing surface tension between different phases, promoting better ingredient dispersion and enhancing product stability.

OLETH-82 is known for its mild nature and low potential for skin irritation, making it suitable for use in sensitive skin formulations. It can improve the spreadability of products and contribute to a smoother, more uniform application. Additionally, this ingredient may assist in enhancing the penetration of other active ingredients into the skin.

While generally considered safe for use in cosmetics, as with all ethoxylated compounds, there are concerns about potential contamination with 1,4-dioxane, a by-product of the ethoxylation process. Manufacturers typically employ vacuum stripping to minimize this risk.
