Oleth-10

Description

Oleth-10 is a versatile synthetic emulsifier and surfactant widely used in cosmetic and personal care formulations. This ethoxylated fatty alcohol is derived from oleyl alcohol and ethylene oxide, resulting in a nonionic compound with excellent solubilizing properties. Its primary function is to facilitate the mixing of oil and water-based ingredients, creating stable emulsions in various skincare and haircare products.

With a Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance (HLB) value of approximately 12.4, Oleth-10 effectively disperses oils in water-based formulations. This characteristic makes it particularly useful in cleansing products, where it helps to remove oil and debris from the skin or hair. Additionally, Oleth-10 acts as a mild surfactant, contributing to the foaming and lathering properties of cleansers and shampoos.

In skincare formulations, Oleth-10 can enhance the penetration of active ingredients, potentially improving product efficacy. It also functions as a thickening agent, helping to achieve desired product textures. While generally considered safe for cosmetic use, some individuals with sensitive skin may experience mild irritation. As with any ingredient, patch testing is recommended for those with known sensitivities.
