OCTOXYNOL-70

Description

Octoxynol-70 is a high molecular weight ethoxylated alkylphenol surfactant belonging to the octylphenol ethoxylate family. This non-ionic surfactant is widely used in personal care and cosmetic formulations due to its excellent emulsifying, solubilizing, and dispersing properties. With a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) value of approximately 18, Octoxynol-70 effectively bridges the gap between oil and water phases in various skincare products.

In skincare formulations, Octoxynol-70 functions as an emulsion stabilizer, helping to create smooth, stable emulsions with improved texture and feel. It aids in the even distribution of active ingredients throughout the product, enhancing their efficacy. This ingredient also exhibits mild cleansing properties, making it suitable for use in gentle facial cleansers and makeup removers.

Octoxynol-70 is generally well-tolerated by most skin types, though individuals with sensitive skin should exercise caution. Its large molecular size limits skin penetration, reducing the potential for irritation. However, as with all ethoxylated compounds, there are ongoing discussions about its environmental impact and potential long-term effects on aquatic ecosystems.
