OCTOXYNOL-7
Description
Octoxynol-7 is a versatile surfactant and emulsifying agent commonly used in haircare and skincare formulations. This non-ionic compound belongs to the alkylphenol ethoxylate family and is known for its excellent cleansing and foaming properties. With a Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance (HLB) value of approximately 12.8, Octoxynol-7 effectively reduces surface tension between oil and water, facilitating the removal of dirt, oil, and other impurities from hair and skin.
In haircare products, Octoxynol-7 is often incorporated into shampoos and conditioners to enhance lather formation and improve the distribution of other active ingredients. It aids in the thorough cleansing of the scalp and hair shaft without causing excessive dryness. In skincare formulations, this ingredient serves as an effective emulsifier, helping to stabilize oil-in-water emulsions and ensuring uniform product consistency.
Octoxynol-7 is generally well-tolerated by most skin types, though individuals with sensitive skin should perform a patch test before regular use. Its ability to enhance the penetration of other ingredients makes it a valuable component in various personal care products, contributing to their overall efficacy and performance.
