Description

NORBIMATOPROST is a synthetic prostaglandin analog primarily developed for ophthalmic use but has gained attention in the field of hair growth. This compound is structurally similar to bimatoprost, a well-known medication used to treat glaucoma and enhance eyelash growth. In haircare formulations, norbimatoprost is being explored for its potential to stimulate hair follicles and promote hair growth, particularly in cases of androgenetic alopecia.

The mechanism of action involves binding to prostaglandin receptors in the hair follicle, potentially prolonging the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle. This interaction may increase blood flow to the follicles, enhance nutrient delivery, and stimulate the production of hair shaft proteins. Preliminary studies suggest that norbimatoprost could be more potent than bimatoprost in promoting hair growth, with a potentially improved safety profile.

When incorporated into topical formulations, norbimatoprost is typically used in low concentrations, often less than 0.1%. It is important to note that while promising, the long-term efficacy and safety of norbimatoprost for scalp hair growth are still under investigation.
