NONYL ALCOHOL

Description

Nonyl alcohol, also known as 1-nonanol or pelargonic alcohol, is a long-chain fatty alcohol with nine carbon atoms. This versatile compound finds application in both skincare and haircare formulations due to its multifaceted properties. In skincare, nonyl alcohol primarily functions as an emollient and emulsifier, helping to create smooth, stable formulations while imparting a silky feel to the skin. Its ability to form a thin, protective layer on the skin's surface aids in moisture retention and can contribute to a more supple complexion.

In haircare products, nonyl alcohol serves as a conditioning agent and helps to improve the manageability of hair. It can reduce static electricity and enhance the overall texture of hair strands. Additionally, nonyl alcohol acts as a coupling agent, facilitating the blending of water-insoluble ingredients with aqueous components in various formulations.

While generally well-tolerated, individuals with sensitive skin should exercise caution, as higher concentrations may cause mild irritation in some cases. Nonyl alcohol is typically used in concentrations ranging from 0.1% to 5% in cosmetic formulations, depending on the specific product and desired effects.
