MYROXYLON BALSAMUM RESIN

Description

Myroxylon balsamum resin, also known as Peru balsam, is a natural extract derived from the Myroxylon balsamum tree native to Central and South America. This amber-colored, viscous substance has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and is now a valuable ingredient in modern skincare formulations.

The resin contains a complex mixture of compounds, including cinnamein, benzoic acid, and cinnamic acid esters, which contribute to its therapeutic properties. It exhibits potent antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects, making it beneficial for treating minor skin infections and reducing redness associated with various dermatological conditions.

Peru balsam is particularly effective as a skin conditioning agent, helping to improve skin texture and elasticity. Its emollient properties make it useful in formulations designed to moisturize and soften dry, rough skin. Additionally, the resin has a pleasant, vanilla-like fragrance, which makes it a natural alternative to synthetic fragrances in cosmetic products.

While generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience allergic reactions to Peru balsam. As with any skincare ingredient, patch testing is recommended before widespread use, especially for those with sensitive skin or a history of allergies.
