Description

Mineral spirits, also known as white spirit or mineral turpentine, is a petroleum-derived solvent widely used in various industries, including cosmetics and personal care. This clear, colorless liquid is primarily composed of aliphatic and alicyclic hydrocarbons, making it an effective solvent for oils and greases. In haircare formulations, mineral spirits serve as a cleansing agent and can help remove excess sebum and product buildup from the scalp and hair shaft.

When used in haircare products, mineral spirits can improve the effectiveness of deep-cleansing shampoos and scalp treatments. Its ability to dissolve oils allows it to penetrate the hair follicles and remove stubborn residues that regular shampoos may not effectively eliminate. However, due to its strong solvent properties, mineral spirits should be used sparingly and in controlled concentrations to avoid stripping the hair and scalp of essential natural oils.
