Mineral Oil

Description

Mineral oil is a widely used ingredient in skincare and cosmetic products, derived from highly refined petroleum. This colorless, odorless substance acts as an effective occlusive agent, forming a protective barrier on the skin's surface to prevent moisture loss. Its molecular structure is too large to penetrate the skin, making it an ideal emollient for surface-level hydration and softening.

Despite misconceptions, pharmaceutical-grade mineral oil is non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic, making it suitable for most skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin. It's particularly beneficial in treating dry, flaky skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Mineral oil's inert nature means it's unlikely to cause allergic reactions or irritation.

In skincare formulations, mineral oil serves multiple functions: it acts as a lubricant, reducing friction in products like cleansers; it helps disperse pigments in makeup; and it enhances the texture and spreadability of creams and lotions.
