METHYLSILANOL GLYCYRRHIZINATE
Description
Methylsilanol Glycyrrhizinate is a specialized skincare ingredient derived from licorice root extract and silicon. This compound combines the anti-inflammatory properties of glycyrrhizic acid with the skin-penetrating capabilities of methylsilanol. Its primary function is to soothe and calm irritated skin while providing hydration and potential antioxidant benefits.
The ingredient works by inhibiting the enzyme 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, which helps reduce skin inflammation and redness. This makes it particularly useful in formulations targeting sensitive or reactive skin conditions. Methylsilanol Glycyrrhizinate also demonstrates mild skin-lightening effects, potentially helping to even out skin tone and address hyperpigmentation issues.
In skincare formulations, it is typically used at concentrations between 0.1% to 2%. The ingredient is water-soluble, making it easy to incorporate into various product types such as serums, lotions, and gels. Its stability in formulations is generally good, but it may be sensitive to extreme pH levels.
While Methylsilanol Glycyrrhizinate is generally well-tolerated, individuals with known sensitivities to licorice or its derivatives should exercise caution. As with any active ingredient, patch testing is recommended before widespread use.
