Description

Methylcyclohexanedione, also known as MCHD, is a potent synthetic ingredient gaining traction in skincare formulations. This cyclic compound functions as a tyrosinase inhibitor, effectively interrupting the melanin production process in skin cells. Its primary application is in hyperpigmentation treatments and products designed to even skin tone.

MCHD works by targeting the enzyme tyrosinase, which catalyzes the initial steps of melanin synthesis. By inhibiting this enzyme, it reduces the formation of melanin, leading to a lightening effect on existing dark spots and preventing the formation of new hyperpigmentation.

Studies have shown that MCHD can be more effective than some traditional skin-lightening agents, such as hydroquinone, with potentially fewer side effects. It is often incorporated into serums, creams, and spot treatments at concentrations ranging from 0.1% to 2%.
