METHYL NICOTINATE

Description

Methyl nicotinate is a potent vasodilator and topical active ingredient used in both skincare and haircare formulations. This ester of niacin (vitamin B3) rapidly penetrates the skin, causing a temporary increase in blood flow to the applied area. The resulting flush and warmth are often accompanied by a tingling sensation, which has led to its use in warming creams and pre-workout formulas.

In skincare, methyl nicotinate is utilized for its ability to enhance the penetration of other active ingredients, potentially improving their efficacy. It's also employed in anti-aging products to promote a youthful, rosy complexion by stimulating microcirculation. In haircare, it's incorporated into scalp treatments to improve blood flow to hair follicles, potentially supporting hair growth and scalp health.

While effective, methyl nicotinate should be used judiciously due to its potency. Concentrations typically range from 0.1% to 1% in formulations. It's contraindicated for use on sensitive or damaged skin and may cause irritation in some individuals. As with any active ingredient, patch testing is recommended before widespread use.
