METHOXYISOPROPANOL

Description

Methoxyisopropanol, also known as 1-Methoxy-2-propanol or PGME, is a versatile solvent commonly used in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This clear, colorless liquid is prized for its excellent solvency properties and low toxicity profile. In skincare products, methoxyisopropanol primarily functions as a solvent and coupling agent, helping to dissolve and blend various ingredients that might otherwise be incompatible.

Its moderate evaporation rate makes it ideal for products that require a balance between quick drying and extended working time. Methoxyisopropanol enhances the spreadability of formulations, contributing to a smooth, even application. It's particularly useful in makeup removers, cleansers, and toners, where it aids in dissolving oil-based impurities and makeup residues.

This ingredient also acts as a viscosity modifier, helping to adjust the thickness and flow of products. Its low surface tension improves the wetting properties of formulations, allowing for better penetration of active ingredients into the skin. While methoxyisopropanol is generally well-tolerated, it's typically used in low concentrations in leave-on products to minimize potential irritation. As with any cosmetic ingredient, patch testing is recommended for individuals with sensitive skin.
