LANETH-50
Description
LANETH-50 is a polyethylene glycol (PEG) ether of lanolin alcohol, functioning as an emulsifier and surfactant in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This non-ionic ingredient is derived from lanolin, a natural wax obtained from sheep's wool, and undergoes ethoxylation to improve its water solubility and compatibility with various formulation components.
With an HLB (Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance) value of approximately 16, LANETH-50 excels at stabilizing oil-in-water emulsions and enhancing the texture of products. It facilitates the blending of oil and water-based ingredients, contributing to the smooth, uniform consistency of creams, lotions, and other skincare preparations.
LANETH-50 also acts as a mild cleansing agent and helps to solubilize fragrances and essential oils in aqueous systems. Its emollient properties can improve skin feel, leaving a soft, non-greasy finish. In haircare products, it can aid in controlling static and improving manageability.
While generally considered safe for use in cosmetics, individuals with lanolin sensitivities should exercise caution. LANETH-50 is typically used in concentrations ranging from 0.1% to 5% in formulations, depending on the specific product requirements and desired attributes.
