LANETH-25
Description
Laneth-25 is a polyethylene glycol (PEG) derivative of lanolin alcohol, functioning as an emulsifier and surfactant in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This synthetic ingredient is created through the ethoxylation process, where ethylene oxide is added to lanolin alcohol to increase its water solubility and enhance its emulsifying properties.
In skincare products, Laneth-25 plays a crucial role in stabilizing oil-in-water emulsions, helping to blend and maintain the consistency of formulations containing both oil and water-based ingredients. Its emulsifying capabilities allow for the creation of smooth, stable creams and lotions that are easily absorbed by the skin.
Laneth-25 also acts as a mild surfactant, aiding in the cleansing process by helping to remove dirt, oil, and other impurities from the skin's surface. Additionally, it can function as a solubilizer, assisting in the incorporation of fragrances and other oil-soluble ingredients into water-based formulations.
While generally considered safe for use in cosmetics, individuals with lanolin allergies should exercise caution when using products containing Laneth-25, as it is derived from lanolin. The ingredient is typically used in concentrations ranging from 0.1% to 5% in various skincare and personal care products.
