KALLIKREIN

Description

Kallikrein is a serine protease enzyme that plays a crucial role in various physiological processes, including skin homeostasis and hair growth. Found naturally in human skin and hair follicles, kallikrein is involved in the desquamation process, helping to shed dead skin cells and promote cellular turnover. In skincare formulations, kallikrein is utilized for its exfoliating properties and its ability to enhance skin barrier function.

This enzyme is particularly effective in breaking down keratin proteins, making it valuable in treatments for hyperkeratotic conditions such as psoriasis and ichthyosis. Kallikrein also contributes to the activation of growth factors and cytokines, potentially stimulating collagen production and improving skin elasticity. In haircare, kallikrein supports the hair growth cycle by regulating follicular keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation.
