ISOSTEARYL ISOSTEARATE
Description
Isostearyl isostearate is a versatile emollient and skin conditioning agent widely used in cosmetic and personal care formulations. This synthetic ester is derived from isostearic acid, a branched-chain fatty acid, and isostearyl alcohol. Its unique molecular structure combines two isostearyl groups, resulting in a lightweight, non-greasy feel on the skin.
As an effective occlusive agent, isostearyl isostearate forms a protective barrier on the skin's surface, helping to reduce transepidermal water loss and maintain hydration. It exhibits excellent spreadability and enhances the texture of various skincare products, including moisturizers, lip balms, and sunscreens. The ingredient's low comedogenicity makes it suitable for use in facial care products, even for acne-prone skin types.
Isostearyl isostearate also functions as a solubilizer for oil-soluble active ingredients, improving their dispersion and efficacy in formulations. Its stability across a wide pH range and compatibility with most cosmetic ingredients make it a valuable component in complex skincare systems. Additionally, this compound contributes to the overall stability and shelf-life of products by inhibiting rancidity and oxidation of other oils present in the formulation.
