ISOPROPYLMETHYLHEXENAL

Description

Isopropylmethylhexenal, also known as Florhydral, is a synthetic aldehyde widely used in the fragrance industry and increasingly incorporated into skincare formulations. This colorless to pale yellow liquid compound possesses a fresh, green, floral scent reminiscent of lily of the valley. In skincare applications, isopropylmethylhexenal serves multiple purposes beyond its aromatic properties. It acts as a fixative, helping to stabilize and prolong the efficacy of other ingredients in the formulation. Additionally, this compound exhibits mild antimicrobial properties, potentially contributing to the preservation of products and offering a subtle protective effect on the skin. Isopropylmethylhexenal has been shown to have antioxidant capabilities, helping to neutralize free radicals and potentially mitigate oxidative stress on the skin. Its molecular structure allows for good penetration into the upper layers of the epidermis, enhancing its effectiveness. When used in appropriate concentrations, typically between 0.1% and 1%, isopropylmethylhexenal is generally well-tolerated by most skin types. However, as with any fragrance ingredient, patch testing is recommended for individuals with sensitive skin or a history of allergic reactions.
