Description

Isopropyl-p-cresol, also known as thymol isopropyl ether, is a synthetic compound with potent antimicrobial and antifungal properties, making it a valuable ingredient in skincare formulations. This colorless to pale yellow liquid is derived from thymol, a naturally occurring compound found in thyme oil. Isopropyl-p-cresol exhibits broad-spectrum activity against various microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and yeasts, making it effective in addressing skin infections and maintaining skin hygiene.

In skincare products, isopropyl-p-cresol is primarily used as a preservative and antiseptic agent. Its ability to inhibit microbial growth helps extend the shelf life of cosmetic formulations while protecting the skin from potential pathogens. This ingredient is particularly beneficial in acne-fighting products due to its antimicrobial action against Propionibacterium acnes, a bacterium associated with acne development.
