ISOPHORONE DIISOCYANATE
Description
Isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) is a crucial organic compound widely used in the formulation of high-performance coatings, adhesives, and elastomers. This aliphatic diisocyanate is characterized by its cyclic structure and two highly reactive isocyanate groups. IPDI offers superior resistance to UV degradation and yellowing, making it an excellent choice for outdoor applications and clear coatings.
In skincare and cosmetic formulations, IPDI serves as a precursor in the synthesis of polyurethane-based ingredients. These derivatives contribute to the formation of film-forming agents, enhancing product durability and water resistance. The controlled reactivity of IPDI allows for the creation of stable, cross-linked structures that improve the overall performance of skincare products.
IPDI's low vapor pressure compared to other diisocyanates reduces inhalation risks during handling and application. However, proper safety measures are essential due to its potential for skin and respiratory sensitization. When fully reacted in end products, IPDI-based materials exhibit excellent chemical resistance, flexibility, and adhesion properties. These characteristics make IPDI-derived ingredients valuable in long-wearing makeup, sunscreens, and other protective skincare formulations.
