INULIN

Description

Inulin is a naturally occurring prebiotic fiber derived primarily from chicory root and other plants such as Jerusalem artichoke and dandelion. In skincare and haircare formulations, inulin serves multiple beneficial functions. As a humectant, it attracts and retains moisture, helping to keep skin and hair hydrated. Its prebiotic properties support the growth of beneficial microorganisms on the skin and scalp, potentially improving the microbiome balance.

Inulin acts as a film-forming agent, creating a protective barrier on the skin and hair shaft. This barrier helps to reduce transepidermal water loss and shield against environmental stressors. In haircare, it can improve manageability and reduce frizz. The ingredient also exhibits mild exfoliating properties, gently removing dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover.

Studies suggest that inulin may have anti-aging effects by stimulating the production of hyaluronic acid in the skin. It's generally well-tolerated and suitable for sensitive skin types. Inulin is biodegradable and environmentally friendly, making it an attractive option for eco-conscious formulations. Its versatility and natural origin make it a valuable ingredient in various skincare and haircare products, from moisturizers and serums to shampoos and conditioners.
