Imidazolidinyl Urea

Description

Imidazolidinyl Urea is a widely used preservative in cosmetic and personal care products. This synthetic compound is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria and fungi, helping to extend the shelf life of formulations and prevent microbial contamination. It is particularly valuable in water-based products, where microbial growth is more likely to occur.

Typically used at concentrations between 0.1% and 0.6%, Imidazolidinyl Urea works by releasing formaldehyde in small amounts over time. This mechanism provides ongoing protection against microorganisms throughout the product's use. Despite its effectiveness, it is considered less potent than some other preservatives, making it suitable for products marketed as "gentle" or for sensitive skin.

Imidazolidinyl Urea is soluble in water and compatible with most cosmetic ingredients, allowing for versatile formulation options. It remains stable across a wide pH range and in the presence of heat. While generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience sensitivity or allergic reactions, particularly those with formaldehyde allergies. As with all preservatives, its use is regulated by cosmetic safety authorities to ensure consumer safety.
