HYDROGENATED STARCH HYDROLYSATE

Description

Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate (HSH) is a versatile ingredient in skincare formulations, derived from the partial hydrolysis and subsequent hydrogenation of corn, potato, or wheat starch. This process results in a mixture of sugar alcohols and polysaccharides, creating a substance with excellent moisturizing and humectant properties.

HSH functions as a powerful humectant, attracting and retaining moisture in the skin. Its molecular structure allows it to penetrate the stratum corneum, providing deep hydration and improving skin elasticity. Unlike some humectants, HSH does not feel sticky on the skin, making it ideal for various formulations.

In skincare products, HSH serves multiple purposes. It acts as a moisturizing agent, helping to reduce transepidermal water loss and maintain skin hydration. Additionally, it can function as a texturizing agent, improving the feel and consistency of creams and lotions. HSH is also used as a low-calorie sweetener in oral care products.

HSH is generally well-tolerated by most skin types and is considered non-irritating and non-comedogenic. Its stability in various pH ranges and compatibility with other common skincare ingredients make it a valuable component in a wide range of skincare formulations.
