HYDROCORTISONE ACETATE

Description

Hydrocortisone acetate is a synthetic corticosteroid widely used in topical skincare formulations for its potent anti-inflammatory and antipruritic properties. This glucocorticoid derivative is particularly effective in treating various skin conditions, including eczema, dermatitis, and minor skin irritations. With a molecular formula of C23H32O6, hydrocortisone acetate works by suppressing the immune response and reducing inflammation in the affected areas.

When applied topically, hydrocortisone acetate penetrates the skin barrier and acts on dermal cells to inhibit the production of inflammatory mediators. This action helps alleviate redness, swelling, and itching associated with skin disorders. Typically available in concentrations ranging from 0.5% to 2.5%, it is considered a mild to moderate strength corticosteroid.

While effective, prolonged use of hydrocortisone acetate can lead to skin thinning, striae, and increased susceptibility to infections. Therefore, it is generally recommended for short-term use under medical supervision. Formulations containing hydrocortisone acetate are available as creams, ointments, and lotions, allowing for versatile application depending on the specific skin condition and affected area.
