This compound is composed of six amino acids and functions as a neurotransmitter inhibitor, mimicking the effects of botulinum toxin but in a non-invasive manner.

The primary action of Hexapeptide-8 is to reduce the formation and depth of wrinkles by limiting muscle contractions in the face. It achieves this by interfering with the proteins responsible for neurotransmitter release at neuromuscular junctions. This mechanism results in a temporary relaxation of facial muscles, particularly in areas prone to expression lines such as the forehead and around the eyes.
