HEXAHYDRO-METHANOINDENE

Description

Hexahydro-methanoindene, also known as Galaxolide, is a synthetic musk compound widely used in the fragrance industry and personal care products, including skincare formulations. This polycyclic musk is prized for its clean, sweet, and long-lasting woody-floral scent profile. In skincare applications, hexahydro-methanoindene serves primarily as a fixative and fragrance enhancer, helping to stabilize and prolong the overall scent of a product.

The compound's molecular structure allows it to interact effectively with other fragrance components, enhancing their performance and longevity on the skin. Its low molecular weight contributes to its ability to penetrate the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin, ensuring a lasting fragrance effect. Hexahydro-methanoindene is known for its excellent stability in various formulations, including creams, lotions, and serums.

While primarily used for its olfactory properties, some studies suggest that synthetic musks like hexahydro-methanoindene may have mild antimicrobial effects. However, it's important to note that the ingredient is used in very low concentrations in skincare products, typically less than 1% of the total formulation.
