HENICOSANE

Description

Henicosane is a long-chain, saturated hydrocarbon with the molecular formula C21H44. This organic compound belongs to the alkane family and is naturally found in various plant waxes and oils. In skincare and haircare formulations, henicosane serves as an emollient and conditioning agent, offering multiple benefits for both skin and hair.

As an emollient, henicosane forms a protective barrier on the skin's surface, helping to reduce transepidermal water loss and maintain hydration. This property makes it particularly useful in moisturizers and lip care products. In haircare, henicosane acts as a lubricant, reducing friction between hair strands and improving overall manageability.

Henicosane's low molecular weight allows for easy absorption into the skin and hair, providing a non-greasy feel. Its stability and resistance to oxidation make it an ideal ingredient for products requiring a long shelf life. Additionally, henicosane exhibits mild occlusive properties, which can enhance the efficacy of other active ingredients in formulations.

While generally considered safe for topical use, henicosane may not be suitable for individuals with extremely sensitive skin or those prone to comedogenic reactions.
