HC VIOLET NO. 1
Description
HC Violet No. 1, also known as 2-[(4-amino-2-nitrophenyl)amino]ethanol, is a semi-permanent hair dye compound widely used in the cosmetic industry. This synthetic colorant imparts a vibrant purple hue to hair and is particularly effective on pre-lightened or naturally light hair. HC Violet No. 1 belongs to the family of HC (Hair Color) dyes, which are designed to penetrate the hair shaft and provide longer-lasting color compared to temporary dyes.
The molecule's structure allows it to diffuse into the hair cortex, where it forms larger color complexes that are less likely to wash out quickly. This dye is often combined with other HC dyes to create a range of purple, lavender, and blue shades. HC Violet No. 1 is approved for use in hair coloring products in many countries, including the European Union and the United States, with specific concentration limits.
While generally considered safe for use in hair dyes, some individuals may experience allergic reactions. As with all hair dyes, a patch test is recommended before full application. The color intensity and longevity of HC Violet No. 1 can vary depending on hair porosity, previous chemical treatments, and hair care routines.
