HC BROWN NO. 4

Description

HC Brown No. 4, also known as 2-[(4-Amino-2-nitrophenyl)amino]ethanol, is a synthetic hair dye molecule used in semi-permanent and temporary hair coloring products. This compound belongs to the family of nitrophenylenediamines and is characterized by its ability to impart brown shades to hair.

The molecule functions by penetrating the hair shaft and forming larger color compounds through oxidation. It is particularly effective in covering gray hair and providing a natural-looking brown hue. HC Brown No. 4 is often used in combination with other dye molecules to achieve a wide range of brown tones.

In terms of safety, HC Brown No. 4 has been evaluated by regulatory bodies such as the European Commission's Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS). It is approved for use in hair dye formulations at specific concentrations, typically not exceeding 1.5% in the final product.

While generally considered safe when used as directed, some individuals may experience allergic reactions. Patch testing is recommended before use, especially for those with sensitive skin or a history of allergic reactions to hair dyes.
