Glycyrrhetic acid, also known as glycyrrhetinic acid, is a bioactive compound derived from licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra). This pentacyclic triterpenoid has gained significant attention in the skincare industry due to its multifaceted benefits. Structurally similar to cortisone, glycyrrhetic acid exhibits potent anti-inflammatory properties, making it effective in treating various skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis.

The compound works by inhibiting the enzyme 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, which helps regulate cortisol levels in the skin.
