GLYCERETH-20

Description

Glycereth-20 is a versatile and widely used ingredient in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This compound is a polyethylene glycol (PEG) derivative of glycerin, created through the process of ethoxylation. Its molecular structure consists of glycerin bonded with 20 ethylene oxide units, resulting in a water-soluble, non-ionic surfactant with excellent emollient properties.

In skincare products, Glycereth-20 functions primarily as an emulsifier, humectant, and solubilizer. It helps to stabilize emulsions by reducing surface tension between oil and water phases, ensuring a smooth and uniform product consistency. As a humectant, it attracts and retains moisture, enhancing skin hydration and improving overall texture.

Glycereth-20's solubilizing properties make it invaluable for incorporating oil-soluble ingredients into water-based formulations. This characteristic is particularly useful when formulating cleansers, toners, and other aqueous products containing essential oils or lipophilic active ingredients.

The ingredient exhibits low skin irritation potential and is generally well-tolerated across various skin types. Its ability to enhance product spreadability and improve the sensory experience of formulations contributes to its popularity in skincare, haircare, and cosmetic applications.
