GERANIAL

Description

Geranial, also known as citral A, is a potent natural compound found in various essential oils, particularly lemongrass and lemon myrtle. This aldehyde is one of the two isomers that make up citral, with the other being neral. Geranial is responsible for the characteristic citrusy aroma in many plants and fruits.

In skincare formulations, geranial serves multiple purposes. It acts as a natural fragrance, imparting a fresh, lemony scent to products. More importantly, geranial possesses antimicrobial properties, making it effective in combating acne-causing bacteria and fungi. This ingredient also demonstrates antioxidant capabilities, helping to neutralize free radicals and protect the skin from oxidative stress.

Geranial has shown potential in improving skin barrier function and reducing inflammation, which can be beneficial for sensitive or irritated skin. Its ability to enhance the penetration of other active ingredients makes it a valuable addition to various skincare formulations. However, as with many essential oil components, geranial can cause skin sensitization in some individuals, so patch testing is recommended before widespread use.
