GENISTEIN
Description
Genistein is a naturally occurring isoflavone found predominantly in soybeans and other legumes. This potent phytoestrogen has gained significant attention in skincare and haircare formulations due to its multifaceted benefits. Genistein exhibits strong antioxidant properties, effectively neutralizing free radicals and protecting cells from oxidative stress. In skincare, it has demonstrated the ability to inhibit collagenase and elastase enzymes, potentially reducing the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin. This action may contribute to improved skin elasticity and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Genistein also shows promise in addressing hyperpigmentation by inhibiting tyrosinase activity, a key enzyme in melanin production. In haircare, genistein has been studied for its potential to promote hair growth by inhibiting 5α-reductase, an enzyme involved in hair loss. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory properties may help soothe scalp conditions. When formulating with genistein, it's important to consider its stability and bioavailability. Typically used in concentrations ranging from 0.5% to 2%, genistein can be incorporated into various product types, including serums, creams, and hair treatments.
