FRUCTOSE

Description

Fructose, a simple monosaccharide sugar, plays a significant role in skincare formulations as a humectant and natural moisturizing factor. This ingredient, commonly found in fruits and honey, has the ability to attract and retain water molecules, making it an effective hydrating agent for the skin.

In skincare products, fructose functions by drawing moisture from the environment into the upper layers of the skin, helping to maintain hydration and improve skin barrier function. Its low molecular weight allows for easy penetration into the stratum corneum, where it can effectively bind to water molecules.

Fructose also exhibits antioxidant properties, potentially helping to protect the skin from free radical damage. It may contribute to the preservation of collagen and elastin, supporting skin elasticity and firmness. Additionally, fructose can enhance the skin's natural exfoliation process by promoting cell turnover.

When used in combination with other humectants like glycerin or hyaluronic acid, fructose can provide synergistic moisturizing effects. It is generally well-tolerated by most skin types and can be particularly beneficial for dry or dehydrated skin. However, as with any ingredient, patch testing is recommended to ensure individual compatibility.
