FISH GLYCERIDES
Description
Fish glycerides are a unique class of lipids derived from various marine fish species, primarily obtained through the process of glycerolysis of fish oils. These compounds are composed of glycerol molecules esterified with fatty acids, predominantly omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Fish glycerides possess exceptional moisturizing and emollient properties, making them valuable ingredients in skincare formulations.
The high concentration of omega-3 fatty acids in fish glycerides contributes to their anti-inflammatory and barrier-strengthening effects on the skin. These lipids help reduce transepidermal water loss, improve skin hydration, and enhance overall skin texture. Fish glycerides also exhibit antioxidant properties, protecting the skin from free radical damage and potentially slowing down the aging process.
In skincare products, fish glycerides are often used as occlusive agents, forming a protective layer on the skin's surface to lock in moisture. They are particularly beneficial for dry, sensitive, or compromised skin conditions. Fish glycerides can be incorporated into various formulations, including creams, lotions, and serums, typically at concentrations ranging from 1% to 5%.
