Description

Ethylhexyl PCA is a synthetic derivative of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (PCA), a naturally occurring component of the skin's natural moisturizing factor (NMF). This ingredient functions primarily as a humectant and skin-conditioning agent in various cosmetic and skincare formulations.

The molecule consists of PCA esterified with 2-ethylhexanol, resulting in improved lipid solubility compared to its parent compound. This modification enhances its ability to penetrate the skin's outer layers and retain moisture effectively. Ethylhexyl PCA works by attracting and binding water molecules from the atmosphere and deeper skin layers, helping to maintain optimal hydration levels in the stratum corneum.
