ETHYLHEXYL CAPRYLATE/CAPRATE
Description
Ethylhexyl Caprylate/Caprate is a versatile and widely-used emollient in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This clear, colorless liquid is derived from the esterification of 2-ethylhexanol with a mixture of caprylic and capric acids, which are naturally occurring fatty acids found in coconut and palm kernel oils.
The ingredient functions primarily as a skin-conditioning agent and emollient, providing a smooth, non-greasy feel to products. It has excellent spreading properties and quick absorption, making it ideal for lightweight formulations. Ethylhexyl Caprylate/Caprate also acts as a mild solvent, helping to dissolve and disperse other ingredients within a formulation.
Due to its low viscosity and ability to enhance the texture of products, it is commonly used in moisturizers, sunscreens, and facial oils. The ingredient is known for its stability and resistance to oxidation, contributing to the overall shelf life of cosmetic products. Ethylhexyl Caprylate/Caprate is generally well-tolerated by most skin types and is considered to have a low risk of irritation or sensitization. Its molecular structure allows it to form a protective barrier on the skin, helping to reduce transepidermal water loss and improve skin hydration.
