ETHYLHEXYL BEHENATE

Description

Ethylhexyl Behenate is a synthetic ester derived from behenic acid and 2-ethylhexanol. This versatile ingredient functions primarily as an emollient and skin-conditioning agent in cosmetic and skincare formulations. Its long-chain fatty acid structure allows it to form a protective barrier on the skin's surface, helping to reduce transepidermal water loss and maintain skin hydration.

In cosmetic products, Ethylhexyl Behenate imparts a smooth, silky texture and enhances spreadability without leaving a greasy residue. Its low melting point (approximately 30°C) makes it particularly suitable for use in lipsticks, balms, and other solid cosmetic formulations, where it contributes to product stability and texture.

This ingredient also exhibits excellent compatibility with a wide range of other cosmetic ingredients, including both oil-soluble and water-soluble components. Ethylhexyl Behenate is generally well-tolerated by most skin types and is considered non-comedogenic, making it suitable for use in products designed for acne-prone or sensitive skin.

While Ethylhexyl Behenate is primarily used for its emollient properties, it may also serve as a viscosity modifier in certain formulations, helping to improve product consistency and performance.
