Dodoxynol-12 is a synthetic surfactant and emulsifier commonly used in skincare and personal care products. This non-ionic compound belongs to the alkyl phenol ethoxylate family and is derived from ethylene oxide and dodecylphenol. Its molecular structure consists of a hydrophobic alkyl chain and a hydrophilic ethylene oxide chain, allowing it to effectively bridge oil and water phases in formulations.

In skincare applications, Dodoxynol-12 serves multiple functions. It acts as an emulsifier, helping to stabilize oil-in-water emulsions and create smooth, homogeneous products. Its surfactant properties aid in cleansing by helping to lift and remove dirt, oil, and other impurities from the skin surface. Additionally, it can enhance the solubility and dispersion of active ingredients, potentially improving their efficacy.
