Description

Dimethyl ether (DME) is a colorless, highly volatile organic compound with the chemical formula CH3OCH3. In skincare formulations, DME primarily serves as a propellant in aerosol products, offering advantages over traditional hydrocarbon propellants. Its low boiling point (-24.8°C) allows for rapid evaporation upon contact with skin, leaving minimal residue.

DME's functionality extends beyond propulsion; it can act as a solvent and penetration enhancer, potentially improving the delivery of active ingredients into the skin. Its low surface tension contributes to finer spray patterns, enabling more uniform product distribution. Unlike some hydrocarbon propellants, DME is ozone-friendly and has a lower global warming potential.
