DILAURYLDIMONIUM CHLORIDE

Description

DILAURYLDIMONIUM CHLORIDE is a quaternary ammonium compound widely used in personal care and cosmetic formulations. This cationic surfactant serves multiple functions, primarily as a conditioning agent and antistatic additive in hair and skin products. Its molecular structure consists of two long-chain alkyl groups (lauryl) attached to a positively charged nitrogen atom, balanced by a chloride counterion.

In haircare applications, DILAURYLDIMONIUM CHLORIDE effectively reduces static electricity, improves combability, and enhances the overall manageability of hair. It forms a thin, protective film on the hair shaft, which helps to smooth the cuticle and increase shine. In skincare products, it acts as an emollient, helping to soften and moisturize the skin.

This ingredient demonstrates good compatibility with other commonly used cosmetic ingredients and exhibits stability across a wide pH range. Its effectiveness at low concentrations makes it a cost-efficient option for formulators. However, like other quaternary ammonium compounds, it may cause irritation in some individuals with sensitive skin. Therefore, patch testing is recommended before widespread use in new formulations.
