DIERUCIC ACID

Description

Dierucic acid, also known as 13,16-docosadienoic acid, is a long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid found naturally in certain plant oils, particularly mustard seed oil. This omega-9 fatty acid has a chemical structure consisting of 22 carbon atoms with two double bonds. Dierucic acid's presence in skincare formulations is relatively rare compared to more common fatty acids like linoleic or oleic acid.

In skincare applications, dierucic acid may contribute to the skin's barrier function and moisture retention. Its long-chain structure allows it to form a protective layer on the skin's surface, potentially reducing transepidermal water loss.
