DIAMMONIUM EDTA

Description

DIAMMONIUM EDTA, also known as Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid Diammonium Salt, is a versatile chelating agent widely used in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This white, crystalline powder is highly soluble in water and functions primarily as a preservative enhancer and stabilizer. Its ability to bind with metal ions, particularly calcium and magnesium, makes it effective in preventing product degradation and maintaining formula integrity.

In skincare, Diammonium EDTA helps to improve the efficacy of preservatives, thereby extending product shelf life and reducing the need for higher concentrations of antimicrobial agents. It also enhances the foaming properties of cleansers and contributes to the stability of emulsions. By sequestering metal ions, it prevents discoloration and rancidity in formulations containing oils and fats.

This ingredient is particularly beneficial in hard water areas, as it counteracts the negative effects of mineral buildup on the skin and hair. Diammonium EDTA is generally considered safe for use in cosmetics when used in appropriate concentrations, typically ranging from 0.01% to 0.1%. However, it's important to note that while it's effective as a supporting ingredient, it's not a stand-alone preservative and should be used in conjunction with other preservation systems.
