DEOXYCHOLIC ACID

Description

Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring bile acid that plays a crucial role in fat metabolism and emulsification in the human body. In recent years, it has gained significant attention in the dermatological field for its potential in non-surgical fat reduction treatments, particularly for submental fullness, commonly known as a "double chin."

When injected into subcutaneous fat, deoxycholic acid disrupts the cell membrane of adipocytes, leading to cell lysis and subsequent fat breakdown. This process, known as adipocytolysis, results in the gradual reduction of localized fat deposits. The destroyed fat cells are then metabolized and eliminated by the body's natural processes.

Clinically, deoxycholic acid is used in a series of treatments, typically spaced several weeks apart. The efficacy and safety profile of this ingredient have been established through multiple clinical trials. Common side effects include temporary swelling, bruising, and numbness in the treated area.

It's important to note that deoxycholic acid treatments should only be administered by trained healthcare professionals. The ingredient is not suitable for widespread body contouring and is specifically indicated for small, localized fat deposits.
