CYMBOPOGON NARDUS OIL

Description

Cymbopogon nardus oil, also known as citronella oil, is a volatile essential oil derived from the leaves and stems of the Cymbopogon nardus plant, a species of lemongrass native to tropical regions of Asia. This pale yellow to light brown liquid possesses a fresh, citrusy, and grass-like aroma. In skincare formulations, citronella oil is valued for its potent antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.

The oil contains key compounds such as citronellal, geraniol, and limonene, which contribute to its bioactive effects. These components help combat acne-causing bacteria, reduce skin inflammation, and neutralize free radicals that contribute to premature aging. Citronella oil also exhibits natural insect repellent properties, making it useful in outdoor-oriented skincare products.

When incorporated into skincare formulations, Cymbopogon nardus oil can help balance oily skin, tighten pores, and promote a clearer complexion. Its astringent qualities make it beneficial for toning and refreshing the skin. However, due to its potency, it should be used in low concentrations and may not be suitable for sensitive skin types. Patch testing is recommended before widespread application to avoid potential irritation or allergic reactions.
