CYMBOPOGON FLEXUOSUS LEAF/STEM OIL

Description

Cymbopogon flexuosus leaf/stem oil, commonly known as lemongrass oil, is a potent essential oil derived from the Cymbopogon flexuosus plant, native to South and Southeast Asia. This highly aromatic oil is extracted through steam distillation of the plant's leaves and stems, resulting in a pale yellow to amber-colored liquid with a strong, citrusy scent.

In skincare formulations, lemongrass oil is valued for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and astringent properties. It contains citral, a compound known for its ability to inhibit bacterial growth and reduce inflammation. This makes it particularly beneficial for acne-prone and oily skin types. The oil's astringent nature helps to tighten pores and control excess sebum production.

Lemongrass oil also possesses antioxidant properties, which can help protect the skin from free radical damage and environmental stressors. Its natural fragrance makes it a popular choice for aromatherapy applications, often associated with stress relief and mood enhancement. However, due to its potency, lemongrass oil should be used in low concentrations and always diluted properly to avoid skin irritation. Patch testing is recommended before widespread use, especially for those with sensitive skin.
